Orchestra Conductor

For this project, a ‘virtual orchestra’ was created. The virtual orchestra had a baton as input device, so users of the virtual orchestra can create music like they are an orchestra conductor. The orchestra conductor could be used solo, by using the baton.

Especially in times of quarantine, the orchestra conductor made it possible to create your own orchestra without the need for orchestra players and instruments. With the orchestra you are still in charge of the music which will be played.

For the baton we used the MPU 6050 sensor, which exists out of a gyroscope and accelerometer. We used the accelerometer to measure the X, Y, Z position of the baton. These three values were sent from Arduino to Pure Data. The values change the music in three ways: loudness, frequency/pitch 1 and frequency/pitch 2. The image below gives an impression of the work.
