Plastic Soup

A Recipe for Disaster

By following different steps of the game design process, a serious game had been developed for Noria Sustainable Innovators. The ‘Plastic Soup’ is a rapidly growing problem that is slowly rising in the global political agendas. It’s difficult to find a paying customer for these sustainable solutions, as the water management is very defragmented (Municipality, Waterboard, Province or Rijkswaterstaat). If it comes to the removal of plastic they all think the other authority is responsible for this part of the water management. The objective of the designed game is to make players aware for the need of collaborative effort to tackle the plastic soup problem and the general mechanics of the plastic soup system.

The game “Plastic Soup” is a simultaneous action 4 player game. The players are set in the backdrop of a river flowing from inland to the sea. It allows the players to understand the problem of plastic soup - how it happens and what they can do about it. Intended for policy makers, this game provides a wide range of moves a policy maker can take to reduce plastics.

The following image gives an impression of the board while playing the game. Furthermore, the game property and rules are provided as well.
