Non-physical communication between humans and dogs: can dogs respond to commands without the commander being present?
This study investigates whether remote communication between dog owner and dog is possible by using a mobile device. This was investigated by measuring the dog’s response to three commands and the dog’s name. The study investigates four different situations, namely normal situation (where the owner is present), hearing the owner, hearing and seeing the owner and lastly how the dog reacts to hearing someone’s voice that is unknown to the dog. Results show that dogs that manage to respond to the different comments were all older than 5 years old.
The video and poster below provide more information about the study.
