Comfortable Skates

Investigating (dis)comfort of the Risport RF1 ELITE figure skate

In order to create comfortable Risport RF1 ELITE figure skates, (dis)comfort is measured by using the Localised Postural Discomfort (LPD) method. Due to the absence of a LPD of the foot in the literature, I created three LPD’s myself based on research executed by (Strzalkowski, Peters, Inglis, & Bent, 2018). The redesign of the Risport RF1 ELITE figure skate shown in figure 2 and 3 is based on the discomfort score (figure 1) from two participants measured by the LPD’s.

Figure 1 Localised Postural Discomfort.

Figure 2 Increased width based on LPD.

Figure 3 Cover the hard material by bending the soft material around it, so it doesn’t cut in your leg.
